{"id":1084,"date":"2021-02-25T18:22:44","date_gmt":"2021-02-26T00:22:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/zewwy.ca\/?p=1084"},"modified":"2021-02-25T18:22:44","modified_gmt":"2021-02-26T00:22:44","slug":"vmware-vcenter-updates-using-vami","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zewwy.ca\/index.php\/2021\/02\/25\/vmware-vcenter-updates-using-vami\/","title":{"rendered":"VMware vCenter Updates using VAMI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is a quick post on the latest security release notification from VMware.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vmware.com\/security\/advisories\/VMSA-2021-0002.html\">VMSA-2021-0002 (vmware.com)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If for whatever reason an update is not possible you can <a href=\"https:\/\/kb.vmware.com\/s\/article\/82374\">follow these workarounds<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/zewwy.ca\/index.php\/2019\/09\/22\/using-vmware-update-manager-vum\/\">While you can use VUM<\/a> to distribute updates and patches to ESXi hosts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/4sysops.com\/archives\/three-ways-to-update-vmware-vcenter-server-appliance-vcsa\/\">You&#8217;ll have to use VAMI for updating vCenter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/my.vmware.com\/group\/vmware\/patch#search\">You can download the latest patches here<\/a> (vmware account required).<\/p>\n<p>I did this on my lab vCenter,\u00a0 took a lil while but not bad.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Made a backup of the VCSA using Veeam<\/li>\n<li>Shutdown Veeam or any other backup solution that might use vCenter<\/li>\n<li>Notified anyone that might use vCenter that it would be inaccessible during update<\/li>\n<li>Attached ISO to VCSA VM (You can do as 4sysops did and upload to a datastore, or you can simply open the VCSA console via VMRC, and attach the ISO from your Downloads folder)<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/NU2Be1s.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/NU2Be1s.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"810\" height=\"96\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Log into VAMI (https:\/\/vcsa:5480)<\/li>\n<li>Click Update on left nav, then Update -&gt; Check CD-ROM<\/li>\n<li>The update should be available as the option, then click Stage and Install<\/li>\n<li>Accept the EULA, use\/don&#8217;t use CEIP, Check I have a backup, Click Install.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>It could take an hour or so, then everything is back to running state, here&#8217;s the summary page after completion:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/GYjOtTZ.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/GYjOtTZ.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1259\" height=\"667\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can read the alternative methods such as using CLI, or how to handle a vCenter HA cluster upgrade using the link above to 4sysops guide on upgrading vCenter.<\/p>\n<p>Sorry this post is not as extensive as usual, just a heads up about the latest VMware patches.
