They cover all the bases&#8230; expect when things go wrong. That&#8217;s why it&#8217;s nice to have labs&#8230; today in my Lab I discovered I was unable to get email from my exchange server, neither from activeSync nor Outlook Web App (OWA).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/AdrMoCC.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/AdrMoCC.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1216\" height=\"390\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Something went wrong alright&#8230; first thing I noticed was my disk had run out of space&#8230; whoops. Hahaha. Expand the drive, reboot and&#8230; Something Went Wrong&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Sigh&#8230;. alright event viewer&#8230; what ya got for me&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/LJSJ9xV.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/LJSJ9xV.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1031\" height=\"711\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unable to mount&#8230;. I guess it didn&#8217;t like what happened to the DB after the disk ran out of space&#8230; some quick googling (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.systoolsgroup.com\/updates\/fix-failed-to-mount-database-in-exchange-2016-2013-2010-error\/\">1<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stellarinfo.com\/article\/solved-exchange-database-fails-to-mount.php\">2<\/a> copy cats&#8230; and can&#8217;t even tell you the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nucleustechnologies.com\/how-to\/exchange-edb-files-location.html\">DB file locations<\/a>&#8230;) and one more, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/pulse\/how-resolve-unable-mount-database-hr0x80004005-ec1108-shelly-bhardwaj\/\">more personal blog post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Exchange_Default_DB_File_Locations\"><\/span>Exchange Default DB File Locations<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>If you are using Exchange Server 2000 &amp; 2003, you can locate your EDB files at:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"htwerror\">C:\\Program Files\\Exchsrvr\\MDBDATA\\Priv1.edb\r\nC:\\Program Files\\Exchsrvr\\MDBDATA\\Pub1.edb<\/pre>\n<p>If you are using Exchange Server 2007, you can locate your EDB files at:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"htwerror\">C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft\\Exchange Server\\Mailbox\\First Storage Group\\Mailbox Database.edb\r\nC:\\Program\\Files\\Microsoft\\Exchange Server\\Mailbox\\First Storage Group\\Public Folder Database.edb<\/pre>\n<p>If you are using Exchange Server 2010, you can locate your EDB files at:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"htwerror\">C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft\\Exchange Server\\V14\\Mailbox Database\\Mailbox Database.edb\r\nC:\\Program Files\\Microsoft\\Exchange Server\\V14\\Public Folder Database\\Public Folder Database.edb<\/pre>\n<p>If you are using Exchange Server 2013, you can locate your EDB files at:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"htwerror\">C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft\\Exchange Server\\V15\\Mailbox\\Mailbox database Name\\Mailbox database Name.edb<\/pre>\n<p>If you are using Exchange Server 2016, you can locate your EDB files at:<\/p>\n<pre class=\"htwerror\">C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft\\Exchange Server\\V15\\Mailbox\\Mailbox Database Name.edb<\/pre>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Repairing_the_Exchange_Mailbox_Database\"><\/span>Repairing the Exchange Mailbox Database<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Which they all tell you to use a cool old &#8220;tool&#8221; eseutil. which seemed straight forward, ensure you run an elevated cmd or you won&#8217;t have access to the directory path of the exchange DB file. In my case I used the Exchange 2013 path which was the version used in my lab.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/nbIDHRQ.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/nbIDHRQ.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1169\" height=\"713\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I also moved the log files:<\/p>\n<pre>move *.log c:\\temp<\/pre>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/JKKJVcY.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/JKKJVcY.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"791\" height=\"52\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Yeah&#8230; that took a lil while.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mounting_the_Exchange_Mailbox_Database\"><\/span>Mounting the Exchange Mailbox Database<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Once it&#8217;s repaired used Exchange Mgmt Shell to mount it:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/YXaeyaH.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/YXaeyaH.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"966\" height=\"649\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Whoops, silly me, since everyone said to stop the information store service I did&#8230; so after starting the service, and rerunning the command it succeeded.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/12wkEZy.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/12wkEZy.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"568\" height=\"57\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Which resulted in:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/IWp5lt3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/IWp5lt3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1271\" height=\"237\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Much better!<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Summary\"><\/span>Summary<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n<ol>\n<li>Check the source of the Database Corruption. (Mine was Disk Space)<\/li>\n<li>Stop the Information Store Service<\/li>\n<li>Check the Validity of the Mailbox Database (eseutil \/mh)<\/li>\n<li>Repair if required (eseutil \/p)<\/li>\n<li>Restart the Exchange Information Store Service<\/li>\n<li>Mount the Mailbox Database<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Hope this helps someone.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fixing Exchange Now, I&#8217;ve taken a couple Exchange courses.
